Passifloraceae
The most fragrant vines in the tropics — passion fruit and her cousins.
The family
Passifloraceae are climbing vines from South and Central America, named for the elaborate flowers early missionaries read as a passion play. Every fruit in the family carries the same signature — bright acidity wrapped around floral aromatics — but they range from sharp purple passion fruit to honey-sweet granadilla. The seeds are crunchy and edible; the jelly around them is the prize.
