Oxalidaceae
A five-pointed star every time you slice it.
The family
Oxalidaceae is a small family best known to fruit-eaters through carambola — the starfruit. Its ribbed yellow skin slices crosswise into perfect five-point stars, with a juicy, waxy flesh that sits between green apple, gentle citrus and pear. Edible skin and seeds, no peeling, no fuss — its only job is to look beautiful on a plate and taste cleanly of itself.
Try thisTrim the brown ridge lines off before slicing for a cleaner, sweeter star.
